I started meditating over thirty years ago, when I was practising Ju-Jitsu. To me the whole point of a martial art is pure meditation. It is to get the mind in the right place with the flow of the breath at one with the flow of a movement.

At the age of 46 I discovered Yoga and in 2005 I qualified as a yoga teacher. For me the most important asana is the first asana done by yogis thousands of years ago and that is sitting cross-legged with the mind emptied of all pointless thought. In Zen Buddhism this is known as Zazen Lit - sitting meditation.

In the West people find it difficult to switch off. I have had people say to me "I don't have time to meditate."  My answer is always the same - find time, just ten minutes twice a day is all you need to do at the start and once you're hooked ... well the possibilities are endless. But you do have to be disciplined.

A still mind is a creative mind, is a healthy mind and is a pure mind. It has been proven that meditation is not only healthy for the mind but also the body. In tests carried out on Zen monks and other people who meditate the theta and alpha waves help reduce blood pressure and can help with people who suffer from asthma. This is because we slow the body down through breathing correctly and switching off from all our bad habits.

Meditation for beginners is an eight-session course for people who would like to experience the art of meditation. The course will look at several different kinds of meditation including:

  • Sound meditation
  • Gazing meditation
  • Golden Flower meditation

I am based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and would be prepared to travel for negotiable expenses. I can hold the sessions at my own home for individual teaching or very small groups.

A class will normally last between 1½ and 2 hours which includes a meditation and the course consists of eight classes usually at fortnightly intervals to allow the student to practise and assimilate what they have learned before moving on to the next lesson. The cost of the course is £28 for the eight classes and includes handouts of various texts including the seven stages of consciousness.

If you belong to a group or society that would like to meditate together as a group of six or more there would be a 10% discount. These sessions would need to be held at premises organised by the group.

I am also available to give talks to groups about meditation and /or mandalas. My rates and travel expenses are negotiable.

If you would like more information about the course or you would like me to give a talk to your group please contact me:
